One day brief

The brief is to produce a piece of visual communication that illustrates cross media and how it benefits businesses as a marketing tool.
the key properties to be included in the design:
  • a start point and a end point
  • gathers momentum
  • delivers an outcome
  • sequential and linear
  • can be repeated
at first i wasn't sure just what to or where to start but after a good brain storm i came up with some ideas, my best idea was a Sound Wave as it has a start and end point, gathers momentum, delivers an outcome (the outcome being the sound) and it can be repeated.

A sound wave can travel though all forms off matter: gases, liquids, solids and plasmas. i would relate this in a business as the company getting past any obstacles and getting straight to the clients.

this is one idea i have, a poster of a sound wave blasting through a wall, id put some sort of speaker on the inside so you can see it making a sound wave to blast through.

i found these cool speaker on google an they have given me an idea of maybe a character in the shape of a speaker, and this character can blast through the wall with a sound wave. this character can also be made into some sort of little toy that can be sent to the company.
did some little ideas of what the character could look like but the only one i like so far is the big speaker with legs.
this is one of my final idea pieces, its a sound wave smashing though a brick wall. i put the image i drew of the brick on to photoshop then started to to add colour in different layers. im pretty happy with how it has come out but i think it could do with some more work ot it, maybe make it more realistic.

Design Process

When getting a project i would normally start off by putting down as many ideas as i can on either some paper or my sketchbook about the subject area no matter how stupid or unrealistic they seem, i would then break down my ideas in to a cupple of my strongest ideas.

The second step i would take is research, i would research into the subject either from the internet, books or do some primary research e.g if it was a games project i would go out and play games and write down notes as i play and also go and asked people who have played games what they think and there outlook on then ect.. after trying to get all the information i can about the subject i would then do some more idea development and research to make my ideas a lot stronger.

The next step i would undertake is to take my ideas as far as i can to expand on them just to see how far i can go, i would do this by doing a lot of experimental work, trying out different techniques, finding out what does and what doesn't work. i would then start to bring them back and start refining them narrowing my ideas to a cupple of really strong ones. after changing and tweaking my ideas i would go on to further research to make them as strong as possible.

I'm then in the stage of picking my strongest ideas to be my final piece, after picking the idea im wanting to be my final piece i would then develop that idea using the techniques i had tried. finally when i am happy with the outcome of my final piece i would present it.

The design process is good, it allows you to know what steps you must take in order to produce the best outcome for your work. The more you use the steps the more you do them automatically in your work and produce some really strong pieces.
3D negative and positive space.

this is all the string after we had taken it down, like this the string had more of a solid positive space but lass of an impact.

had a pretty awesome day in 3D, we was looking at negative and positive space using string, we put it all around the room to show the negative and positive space, the string being the positive and the space around it is the negative, putting the string all around the room gave the negative space more of an impact than if the string was rolled up into a ball because it made the negative space harder to maneuver around. after we had finished we made it a challenge to get round the classroom to see how hard it was to get through the negative space.... it was pretty hard :P
we then took it all down and put the string on the table to show how much string we used.

the costume im wanting to make is the American civil war costume. its 18th and i wanted to do a war costume abecause i thought it would look cool. im obviously not just going to coppy the war uniform, im going to put my own trist and style to it. iv started off my looking at the uniform and doing some designs of my own.

Photobucket
as the project is a paper project i thought id look into artists that use paper in costume and wigs as part of the project is for the wig to be part of a character relating to a Rakes progress or person from the 18th century, i found some artists work i like, Susan Cutts and Isabelle de Borchgrave. Isabelle makes Victorian dresses out of paper and prints the patterns on.

I looked through the internet for 18th century wigs and found some images that gave me an idea of what they looked like.

 Wig Making
we started wig making as a project relating to the work we are doing on a rakes progress, the project is a paper project so its all made from paper. i started off with raping a plastic bag around a manikin then taping it up to make the bass of the wig. I then rolled up some bubble rap and taped it to the rim for the big side bits, i cut out loads of thin strips of paper and curled it with scissors and taped them on.
